Marty began his career in the economics research groups of Bell Laboratories and BellCore.  Marty joined the Economics Department at Rutgers University in 1989.  During the 1990’s, his research focused on resale price maintenance, exclusive dealing, and tying arrangements.  More recently, he has worked on applications of auctions in industrial organization.  This auction research has examined mergers, bribery, and preferred suppliers.  Since 1997, Marty has regularly visited the Institute of Economic Analysis in Barcelona Spain.  In 2004, Marty served as the Chief Economist at the Federal Communications Commission.  While at the FCC, he worked on mergers in the wireless industry and concentration in the media industry.
